Urethane cement flooring in Country Walk FL - a floor that takes spills and heat

Floor stained and wearing through from spills and hard use? We test your slab, then trowel down a floor built to take it.

A smooth light-gray resurfaced concrete floor runs through a bright industrial corridor lined with yellow columns and metal cabinets.

Is urethane cement the right floor for your room?

Urethane cement flooring is a cement-based urethane floor we trowel smooth over your concrete in Country Walk, built to take harsh chemicals, sudden swings in temperature and hard wear while staying slip resistant underfoot.

Most people find this floor because something else gave out on them, a coating that peeled where hot tires sat or a slab that stains every time something spills. Whether urethane cement fits your room usually comes down to four things: how dry your slab is, how much sun the room gets, how long you can go without the room, and whether anyone at home has asthma or allergies. I'll walk through each of those below.

The price moves with the size of the room, how much grinding and crack repair the slab needs, and whether part of the floor needs a topcoat because sun reaches it. The schedule turns mostly on what the moisture test shows and on the room being ready on install day, so your own figure comes from the written estimate I give you after I've tested the slab.

What happens when you call about urethane cement flooring in Country Walk?

Most of what goes right on this floor gets decided before any material is mixed, so here's who you'll deal with and when.

I come out and test your slab myself

When you call, I set up a time to come out, look at your floor and test the slab before I write anything down. I started as a helper pushing a grinder and opened our business in 2017, and the slab is still the first thing I look at.

Fully licensed and insured, and worth asking about

Contractors working in Miami-Dade County are licensed by the county's Contractor Licensing Section, so it's fair to ask any installer which county license they hold. We're fully licensed and insured.

I work the floor with our crew

Our crew does the work, and I'm on the job with them. When the floor is down, we walk it with you before we call the job done.

How we put down urethane cement flooring

We test the slab first, because one maker of this floor says the concrete has to be tested for moisture vapor, the water that rises up through a slab, before anything goes down. Then we grind the surface open so the new floor can grip it, fill what needs filling, trowel the urethane cement smooth and add a topcoat anywhere sun reaches it, for the reason in the FAQ below. If the test says your slab isn't ready, I'll tell you that rather than coat it and hope.

If your room doesn't see spills, chemicals or heat, polished concrete flooring or stained concrete flooring may suit it better, and I'll tell you so at the estimate.

  • A moisture test on the slab before any material is mixed
  • Grinding to open the surface so the new floor bonds to it
  • Filling cracks and damaged spots in the concrete
  • Urethane cement troweled smooth to a slip resistant finish
  • A UV stable topcoat on any part of the floor sunlight reaches

How the job goes, from test day to the first time you walk on it

These are the points where your slab, the room and your household shape the plan.

  1. Read the test and settle the plan

Once the moisture test is back, we agree on the system and which areas need a topcoat, so nothing gets decided on install day. If the slab needs more prep or more time, that's when you'll hear it.

  2. Wait for the right conditions in the room

One maker requires relative humidity below 80% and a floor warmer than the dew point, the temperature where moisture beads up, by a set margin. We check both before we start, and if the room isn't there yet, we wait.

  3. Plan fresh air for everyone at home

One maker warns its urethane cement is harmful if breathed in and can bring on allergy or asthma symptoms or trouble breathing. We plan fresh air for the room, and if anyone at home has asthma or allergies, we talk through where they'll be while the work is going on.

  4. Stay off it until it's ready

The floor needs time to cure before people, cars and heavy use come back, and the times one maker gives are in the FAQ below. Until then, keep the door closed to pets and kids so the surface sets without marks.

Urethane cement flooring questions from Country Walk homeowners

How soon can we use a new urethane cement floor?

For one maker's product, you can walk on it after 12 hours, drive on it after 24 hours and count on full cure in 7 days. Other products run on their own times, so I'll give you the ones for the material we're using before we start, and that full-cure week is the one to plan heavy use around.

Will a urethane cement floor change color in the sun?

It can, which is why we topcoat any part of the floor sun reaches. One maker says its urethane cement isn't UV stable and will discolor unless it's top coated with a UV stable coating, so a sunny garage or patio gets that topcoat as part of the job.

Will cracks in my concrete show through urethane cement?

They might. One maker notes that moving joints, the seams where a slab shifts, and shrinkage cracks may show through its finished floor, so I'll point out the ones I see on your slab at the estimate and tell you what to expect.

How do I clean a urethane cement floor?

Clean it often and thoroughly with a neutral pH cleaner, one that's neither acidic nor alkaline, which is what one maker recommends. The same maker says walk-off mats inside and outside the room help the floor last longer.

Permits and home types in Miami-Dade County

We're based in Country Walk and work across the cities around it in Miami-Dade County, including The Hammocks and Kendall. Homeowners here usually call us about garages, patios and pool decks, business owners call about shop and warehouse floors, and the testing comes first on every one of them.

Florida now lets home improvement projects valued under $7,500 skip the building permit if they meet Miami-Dade County's exemption rules, but the county applies that only to single-family homes, duplexes, townhouses and the accessory structures on them, not to units in multi-family buildings. A property that sits partly or entirely in a flood hazard area is left out too, and you can look up your address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center. We check which office covers your address before we schedule, and if your job needs a permit or other approval, we handle the application and tell you what you need to sign.

Call before you clear out the room

A call to (786) 733-0104 gets your slab tested first, so you don't empty a room for a floor the concrete isn't ready to hold yet.

If you're still deciding whether urethane cement fits your room, call or send the form and I'll talk it through with you.
