Pool Deck Coatings & Resurfacing in Country Walk FL - a deck that grips when wet

Cracked, stained or slippery concrete around your pool? We test the slab first, then give a sound deck a fresh textured surface.

A speckled tan and rust-colored pool deck borders bright blue water, with a lounge chair and potted plant nearby.

Can my old pool deck be resurfaced instead of torn out?

Pool deck coatings and resurfacing in Country Walk put a new, lightly textured overlay or coating over the concrete you already have, so a sound deck grips when wet and hides minor flaws without being torn out.

Most calls start with cracks spreading across the deck, an old coating peeling at the edges or concrete that turns slick the minute it gets wet. Those usually come from a deck that's worn on top, not one that's failing underneath, and that difference is what I test for when I come out, because no coating can fix a slab that's moving.

The price moves with the size of your deck, how much crack and divot repair it needs, whether an old coating has to come off first and which finish you pick. The schedule turns on that same prep, how long your finish needs to cure before anyone walks on it and any permit paperwork your address needs. Your written estimate spells out the prep and the finish for your deck, so you can see what you're paying for.

What happens after you call about your pool deck?

I've been doing this work since 2017, and I still handle the first visit myself. Miami-Dade County licenses contractors who work here through its Contractor Licensing Section. We're fully licensed and insured.

I come out and test the slab myself

When you call, I set up a time to look at your deck and test the concrete, because whether it can be resurfaced comes down to what's under the surface. You get a written estimate based on what I find, not on a guess over the phone.

Permit paperwork checked before we schedule

We check which office covers your address before we put your deck on the calendar. If the job needs a permit or other approval, we handle the application and tell you what you need to sign.

Prep, finish and a walk-through with you

Our crew preps the slab and puts down the system we agreed on, and I'm on the job with them the whole way. When it's done, we walk the finished deck with you so you see it before we call it complete.

How we handle pool deck coatings and resurfacing

If your deck is sound, resurfacing usually makes more sense than tearing it out, and I'll tell you honestly which way yours goes, even when the answer is replacement. Once we agree to resurface, we repair what's broken, prep the concrete so the new layer bonds and put down the finish you picked. I talk through finishes in terms of how hot they get on bare feet, how well they grip when wet and how easy they are to clean, because that's what you'll notice every day around the pool.

Some decks need work before the new surface can go down. If an old coating or paint is peeling, our concrete floor stripping and removal takes it down to bare concrete so the new finish isn't sitting on something loose. If you'd like the garage done while we're out, we also do epoxy floor coatings for floors that stay out of the sun.

  • A slab test and a look at every crack before we price anything
  • Crack and divot repair so damage doesn't show through the new surface
  • Grinding or cleaning so the new layer bonds to the concrete
  • Masking off the pool edge, walls and screens before work starts
  • A finish chosen with you for heat, grip and easy cleaning

From worn concrete to a finished deck

Every deck gets the same order of work, and most of the time goes into the first two steps, because that's what decides how long the surface lasts.

  1. Test and mark the slab

We check the concrete for soundness and mark every crack, divot and loose spot. Anything we miss now tends to show through a thin surface later.

  2. Repair and prep the surface

We fill cracks and patch divots, then grind or clean the deck so the new surface has clean, open concrete to grab onto. You won't see this part once we're done, but it's the part that holds the deck together.

  3. Put down the finish

We apply the overlay or coating you picked and set the texture as we go. We keep it even so the grip feels the same from the pool steps to the far corner.

  4. Cure and clean up

We keep everyone off the deck until the finish is ready for foot traffic. Then we pull the tape and masking and clean up so the pool area is yours again.

Pool deck questions we hear in Country Walk

Should I resurface or replace my pool deck in Country Walk?

Resurface it if the slab is structurally sound, because a Florida pool deck guide calls resurfacing almost always the better value and says it can often be done in one to two days. The same guide puts replacement at a week or more and says it only makes sense with severe failure, such as major settling, cracks that run all the way through the slab or rusting steel inside it. The slab test I do on the first visit is how we find out which side your deck is on.

Which pool deck finish stays coolest underfoot?

A cool deck surface stays cooler than plain concrete and basic knockdown, but it feels rougher on bare feet and is harder to keep clean. Knockdown, a cement-based overlay that's sprayed on and then troweled flat, is the most common finish on Florida decks because it absorbs less heat and grips when wet, and a Florida guide calls it the right fit for most owners with sound concrete. Knockdown also takes color or stain, so ask us which shades it can match.

How often does a resurfaced pool deck need recoating?

One Florida guide puts cement-based systems at 8 to 12 years between recoats, against 3 to 5 years for a shorter-lived option that changes the look of the deck less. Acrylic coatings handle chlorine and pool chemicals better than basic cement coatings and can be recoated without stripping, and they're often walkable in 24 hours. Because they're thin, real cracks and settling still show through unless we do extra prep first.

Does Miami-Dade County require a permit to resurface a pool deck?

Miami-Dade County requires an ISR permit, its permit for stand-alone hard-surface work, and its list names pool deck expansion or replacement but doesn't name resurfacing. The county also says work valued under $7,500 may qualify for a simplified process with no building permit if it meets the county's criteria. Since the rules don't settle every resurfacing job, we check which office covers your address before we schedule and handle any application yours needs.

Pool deck work in Country Walk and across Miami-Dade

The county's ISR rule applies in unincorporated Miami-Dade and in a set of cities it lists, so where your house sits decides which office looks at the job. If an ISR does get filed on a single-family home or duplex, the county reviews the whole property for current code, not just the deck, which is worth knowing before work starts.

We're based in Country Walk and work across the cities around it in Miami-Dade County, including The Hammocks, Kendall, Kendale Lakes and Richmond West. Most of the decks we see are backyard pools on single-family homes, and the same slab test and prep go into every one of them.
